Pet Exams in Northfield, OH Meeting Your Pet’s Healthcare Needs Year After Year

At Northfield Veterinary Hospital, we take a proactive approach to your pet’s healthcare. By focusing on keeping your pet healthy rather than just treating problems when they appear, we ensure your cat or dog enjoys a high quality of life through their golden years — and it gives you more good years with them, too. Annual pet exams allow us to understand your pet’s health better, which allows us to more readily recognize subtle changes. The sooner we notice any changes, the sooner we can address them before they develop into something more serious.

Let us give you more good years with your pet!

Important Elements of Your Pet’s Healthcare

At your pet’s annual exam, our veterinarians will talk to you about certain elements of your pet’s health that are essential for maintaining their well-being. These elements include:

Baseline bloodwork

Pets can’t tell us how they feel, so in addition to a physical exam, we highly recommend running annual bloodwork. By checking your pet’s complete blood count and running disease-screening tests, we can establish their baseline bloodwork and more easily catch any changes in the future.

Dental Evaluation

Your pet’s teeth are vitally important to their overall health! During their physical exam, your veterinarian will perform a dental exam to assess the health of your pet's teeth and gums. If we see signs of disease, we’ll recommend a full dental cleaning to remove built up plaque and tartar. Find out more about our dental services.

Parasite Prevention

Fleas, ticks, heartworms, and intestinal parasites pose serious risks to our pets, and our human families, too. To keep your family safe, we recommend year-round parasite prevention. For dogs, we recommend ProHeart 6 (a 6-month injectable) for heartworm prevention, as well as Credelio for fleas and ticks. For cats, we recommend Revolution Plus, which protects against fleas, ticks, heartworms, and intestinal parasites. Find these and other preventatives in our online store!

Vaccines protect your cats and dogs from dangerous diseases that are more prevalent than you may realize! Pets need vaccines throughout their lives in order to maintain their immunity. Your veterinarian will develop a customized vaccination plan to suit your pet’s lifestyle and give them complete protection. Get more info about our vaccines!

Why We Recommend Annual Vet Visits

Cats and dogs age 5-6 years for every human year. A lot can happen in that amount of time! To stay on top of your pet’s ever-changing needs, we recommend annual visits. These visits give us the chance to get to know you and your pet better. With a deeper veterinarian-client-patient relationship, we can give your pet more individualized care and educate you on your pet’s healthcare needs so you can take better care of them at home.
